I took the weekend to visit my family in Arizona. I chose to drive the five plus hours instead of flying. I did this for one specific reason. I did this in order to FEEL. Not to think, over think or to dive deep into my ruminating thoughts. During the drive I blasted my favorite music. I cried when songs came on that reminded me of the past. I laughed when I pulled over on the side of the road in the middle of nowhere to pee only to have a police officer pull up behind me. I FELT excited when I got close to my sisters home. I felt anger towards myself as I thought about how much mental energy was wasted over the past year over thinking.
We don’t FEEL enough! We don’t feel into our pain, we don’t feel into our sadness, we don’t feel into our anger therefore we never HEAL our wounds. We walk around wearing a thousand different masks so we can be everything to everyone else. What happens is we end up wounding others in the process.
People who have good emotional health are aware of their thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. They have healthy coping mechanisms. Healthy people understand the stress and problems that are a normal part of life. They feel good about themselves and therefore have healthy relationships.
There are several ways our emotional health can be disturbed. Childhood abuse, trauma from being cheated on, PTSD from accidents…the main reasons are listed below. All of the following scenarios can lead to strong feelings of sadness, stress, or anxiety. Even good or wanted changes can be as stressful as unwanted changes. Especially if we don’t have the details.
I’ll be talking more about this in tomorrows news letter. How our issues live in our tissues! I’ll leave you with the list below…pick your trauma and we will meet again tomorrow!

- The death of a loved one
- Getting divorced or married
- Suffering an illness or an injury
- A new job
